Concept of Atmanivedanam

Hinduism is also considered to be a material science. The reason for calling it material science is  because without life or Jeeva  there cannot be a science and this thought process was first introduced by our great Hindu Acharyas and later carried forward  by our ancestors. Our Acharyas were the greatest scientists. On one hand we have  material science where matter can be split into electron ,positron, neutron econ, energy and on the other hand we have meta physical science ( Adhyatmika) which is related to Jeeva or life. Until the advent of Max Plank, scientists were of the opinion that if we give the same instruments to all scientists across the world and conduct the same scientific experiments, the results would be same. From  Max Plank( who had discovered Quantum Theory) onwards  the interpretation changed. Max Plank said "I regard consciousness as fundamental and matter as a derivative of it"  Hindus should be proud of this statement because thi...

Cow Sacrifice - The misinterpretation of Pasumedham.

Cow Sacrifice in Hinduism was the result of misinterpretation of the Vedic Texts by westerners. Not sure this misinterpretation  was done willfully or not but has caused great damage to the community by entering into academic curriculum also.Pasu was translated as cow by westerners and same meaning was carried forward by others but Pasu has several other meanings.Other meanings of Pasu are Jeevan,Kundalini, jnanam, ajnanam,Meaning suitable to the context has to be taken. For eg Pasupathinathan is not a bulls owner but pathi of all Jeevas which is Lord Shiva.Tantra Text  Rudra yamalam  26th Chapter Uttarakhandam has given the meaning of Pasu.  പുണ്യാപുണ്യപശൂൻ  ഹത്വാ ജ്ഞാനഖഡ്ഗേന യോഗവിത്‌ Punnyapunnyapasoon Hathwa Jnanaghadgaena Yogavith Here Pasu stands for the 2 egos. One which is endowed with punnyam and the other with apunyam. One which is formed out  of ignorance thinking that one is a sinner and the other one being the arrogance in assuming that ...

Sunderkand - Meaning of Sundara

Sundara has got several meanings. The word Sundara has different meanings Handsome,Beautiful,Pretty,Fair ,Lovely,Homely,Elegant,Good Looking etc. These are the equivalent words or synonyms that can be used as the meaning of Sundara. But in a Indian context the word has a deeper meaning. It is not merely materialistic or mundane .It has more sacred ,divine, altruistic  or spiritual meaning. They are related to different situations of life. For example the situation created and explained to get word the handsome is related to a male principle or a male person. The male principle is the masculine cause of creation where from the nature is created or originated. According to Indian philosophy there are 2 aspects of function ,one is the stagnating function which is always tranquil it has no motion but the other is full of motions and here in our society we normally use the phrase  "a handsome young man" not "a handsome young lady". Only a beautiful young lady  and not  ha...

Shiva Lingam Concept

Shiva Lingam is the most widely misunderstood concept in Hinduism. As per Manusmruti there are 16 different meanings for Lingam. Meaning suitable to the context has to be taken while explaing the concept. Limah Gamayiteeti Linga (That which originates from the condition of absorption is Lingam) Lim Gamayiteeti Linga (That which reaches the condition of absorption is Lingam) Lim means absorbed condition of knowledge or consciousness. Matter orginates from consciousness and finally gets absorbed back into consciousness. The nature comes into existence ,exists and is later absorbed. This process is repeated in a cyclic manner in nature. Since from the Leena (absorbed) condition it is going forward (Gamikkuka) so the name Lingam. Linga sound indicates the principle ,which is the cause of creation, sustenance and absorption. All the meaning of Linga sound are related to the condition of absorption. For example tree comes into existence from absorption and finally once decayed the ...

Scientific Analysis of Vigraham (consecrated idols) and Dwajasthambam (Flag pole) in Temples

Modern science has been used to understand the importance of Temple culture and its impact on the society irrespective of religion, caste, creed or color. It is well known that all objects reflect light rays 360 degrees around the object and this phenomenon permits us to visualise objects around us as these rays fall on our retina. The rays emanating from the consecrated idols can be analyzed using Kirlian cameras. Kirlian cameras take photo of light and energy (shakti). Studies have shown that before consecration the idol's photo is black and white and after consecration, an aura of brightness forms around the idols. Photos of each ray emanating from the idol has the full form of the idol on anlaysis. For example , each ray coming from an Idol of Sree Krishna has the full photo of Sree Krishna. The rays coming from the consecrated idol's have the power to kill harmful germs. So when a person prays standing in front of the idol he gets the full benefit of these very powerful ...

The Essence of Ramayana

Ramayana is the first and noblest of its kind as an epic.It uplifts a person from a lower  to the higher status of Life. The sublime principles of life are glorified in it.The viles and virtues are given importance in personal  life and in social order.Dharmic discipline is established in all walks of life.Strength and steadiness ,vigor and vitality, wit and wisdom are taken as the instruments  for the promotion of Dharma.Dharma is accepted as the nucleus of life. The morals and values  of human life are always protected .The indiscipline of negative forces of life is discouraged and defeated The symbolism in Ramayana is very much attractive. Here the lower status of human mind is gradually lifted to the higher status of spiritual order for which the qualities of the human mind are transformed into the characters of Ramayana. The Heroes and heroines wear significance as symbols to suggest the qualities of the human mind .The viles  and virtues are d...

Reason behind choosing Malayalam month Karkidakam as Ramayana Masam

Ramayana Masam is observed to bring out the importance of Ramayana and not of the month.Karkidakam month is often called  "panja masam"  (lean season).New ventures and auspicious functions(Wedding,House Warming,Vidhyarambham etc ) are not held during this month.Karkidakam marks the begining of Dakshinayanam(southern movement of the sun). Inclement weather, poverty and diseases are the highlights of this month. The effect of which is reflected in mankind and in all living  beings. As per Ayurveda shastra this time is good for all health treatments such as Pizhichil ,Uzhichil etc..The change in the sun's path has significant impact on human beings also. Human body and nature are closely associated. Both bodies are made up of Panchabootham(Earth,Water,Fire,Air and Sky). Any change in Prapancha Sareeram(Nature) has a direct effect on Human body and the society. This is based on the Prana (Life Force) and the body.Phenomenon of Uttarayana and Dakshinayana based on the celesti...

Scientific Analysis of Sree Chakra

Modern science has come up with a deeper meaning in Sree Chakra which is considered symbolic in Tantra Sasthra. Experiments show that when the Mula Mantram of Sree Lalithambika Devi is recited correctly ,Sree Durga Devi's form with four hands, is formed in the atmosphere. ഓം ഹ്രീം ലളിതാംബികായൈ നമ: ക എ ഇ ല ഹ്രീം ഹ സ ക ഹ ല ഹ്രീം സ ക ല ഹ്രീം The above Sloka is the Mula Mantram of Sree Lalithambika Devi .The effect of this mantram can be analyzed using the Tonoscope .Tonoscope is an instrument which measures the frequency and tone of sound and gives a pictorial representation of the wave form. When we connect the tonoscope to a computer and recite the mula mantram of Sree Lalithambika Devi the output is the Sree Chakra. Sree Chakra is a mathematical scientific wonder and so far it has not been fully analyzed. The second part of the analysis is to pass a Laser beam through the centre of Sree Chakra and develop a Hologram which results in the image of Sree Lalithambika Devi w...

Significance and Meaning of Rama Mantram

‘Sri Rama Rama Rameti Rame Raame Manorame; Sahasra nama tattulyam Rama nama varanane!’ The above Sloka is Lord Shiva's reply to Goddess Parvathi's question as to which mantra  can be easily  recited and its effect equivalent to Sahasranama. Lord Shiva's reply was Rama Mantram.  Rama sound is formed from 2 Beejaksharas (the seed syllables) Ra and Ma. "Beejakshara" means the seed syllable which stores that, which is indestructible. Akshara means that which is indestructible. The Beejaksharam "Ra" is from the Ashtakshari Mantra: "Om Namo Narayanaya" and Beejaksharam "Ma" from Panchakshari mantra "Om Namah Shivaya" Beejaksharam is the jeevan or life force of a mantra and if we remove that then that mantra becomes useless. From Narayanaya mantra if we remove Beejaksharam "Ra" sound then it will become Na ayanaya which means not good for chanting ,moksha etc.Same applies while r...

Time Concept in Hinduism

Bharatheeya Saints had visualised the orgin and time span of universe crores of years back.Result of which is the four Yugas(Krita Yuga,Treta Yuga,Dwapara yuga,Kali Yuga) and the time extending upto age of Brahma ,Vishnu and Shiva.Currently we are in the Kali Yuga ,year 5113 and Kali Divas 1867503 as of Sat Feb 11 2012 The division of time was extremely advanced and went beyond the current smallest unit of time which is seconds. 1 second when divided by 40000 parts is called Dwanukom.two of which is called Trenukom. Time concept was so scientific that on one hand it divided the seconds into smaller parts to the instance where the human mind starts to think and  on the other hand it calculated time extending upto Yugas ,Brahmas age and so on. Chatur Yugas are as follows: Krita Yuga =  1728,000  Years Treta Yuga = 1296,000 Years (Lord Sree Ram's Period) Dwapara yuga = 864,000 Years (Lord Krishna's Period) Kali Yuga = 432,000 Years(Current Period) ...

Significance of 28th Day Thread Ceremony for Newborns.

It is a common custom followed to tie a black or black and yellow thread around the the waist of a Newborn at the 28th day.Initially this custom was followed  exactly at the 28th day after the child was born. Now since people are pre-occupied with work this ceremony is conducted on a Holiday and extends to 29th or 30th day.Majority of the people do not know the significance of this ceremony why it has to be on the 28th day. There are 28 stars associated with our system starting with Aswathy,Bharani and going up-to Abhijith (28th Star.2.5 Nazhika). Normally Astrologers take only 27 stars into consideration because Abhijith has a short time duration when compared to other stars. But Abhijith is strong during the period when it is present.28 days constitute a Chandra Masa(Moon Month). In 28 days these stars will come face to face with the Moon one by one.The rays from the star will get mixed with the rays of the Moon and Somam( A subtle matter in the form of liquid )...

Life Principle of Plants

Hindu or Bharathyia culture considers World as one family  (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam). This single entity includes all living and non living beings. In this post we look at plant kingdom and how it is closely associated with human beings.Plants around you can be the reincarnation of  your grandfather, father, children etc. Cleve Backster, an interrogation specialist, had done lot of research in analyzing the behavior of Plants. In one of the research he used polygraph electrodes attached to Philodendron. The polygraph machine can record physiological changes just like ECG.After setting the electrodes, Baxter asked one of his colleague  to pluck the leaf of the plant. No changes were observed on the tape.Next he asked to pluck the bud and now again the plant did not show any change. Then Baxter asked him to burn the plant.Suddenly abnormal  waves were recorded on the tape.Initially Baxter thought there was some problem with his physiology and after repeated e...

Concept of Vegetarianism in Swamiji's words

The thought waves of previous births of all beings exist in the atmosphere. These thought waves are in the form of channels and life force of the respective person traverses through it during life and after death.During animal slaughter, powerful anti-waves are created in the atmosphere due to the merciless killing of a helpless animal. The atmosphere contains anti waves of the animals which are killed. A person who has slaughtered the animal or consumed the flesh , will be unable to overcome the anti-waves created during the willful slaughter of the helpless animal after death. In order to resist the anti-waves(these prevent the soul from rising from earth's atmosphere) his soul takes the form of the animal in the next birth. In the next birth the animal will become a human being and human being an animal . Here the new human slaughter's the new animal due to previous impressions. This cycle continues until one of them stops killing the other.During animal slaug...

Understanding Renunciation from Swamiji's Padapooja Book

Happiness and Sorrow originates from the attachment of an object to the person who relates to it.To accept or renounce an object depends on the person's relationship to that object. The happiness in accepting the object, which a person experiences will not be there when the person renounces the object. This is because there is an inherent feeling that the object belongs to me. There are 2 types of desires. One in which a person  sacrifices something because he does not like it and another is where he accepts something because of liking. To Sacrifice something which a person does not like and the freedom experienced after that are the same. Renunciation should be understood in a different way. When you sacrifice something which you don't like it cannot be called Renunciation.Renunciation is something which you like and sacrifice it for the benefit and prosperity of others. When you sacrifice something which gives you sorrow that does not mean it can give happines...

Identifying positive and negative waves using dowsing rods

A pair of L shape dowsing rods can be used to detect positive and negative waves. A wave can be a sound or thought wave.A positive wave is one which is good for us and the other which is not.For example if somebody shouts at us using filthy language then negative sound waves are propagated in the environment and this negative waves does not align with our culture and net result is a disaster. On the other hand when someone speaks good about  us positive sounds waves are propagated and we feel happy. The same principle apples when we think bad or feel jealous about another person or if we are in the company of a person with negative thoughts. This gives us an idea of positive and negative waves. If the 2 L shaped rods are brought in front of our gurus or Gods these rods will deflect showing positive waves. In one of the instance when the L shaped rods was brought in front of the picture of Brahma Sree Neelakanta Gurupadar,Guru of Jagadguru Swami Sathyananda Saraswathi Tiruvadikal the r...

Cyclic Model proves Hinduism's concept of the Universe.

Great Hindu saints from time immemorial have described the nature of the universe. The universe never ends and goes on in a cyclic manner. It expands and then contracts to an atom. The above theory was not accepted by the Western scientists for a long time. Two scientists Paul Steinhardt (Princeton University )  and Neil Turok (Cambridge University) did research on the Big Bang Theory and ended up with "cyclic model".They came to the conclusion that  there could be a timeless cycle of expansion and contraction. It’s an idea as old as Hinduism, updated for the 21st century.Whatever the  Hindu scriptures described about the universe millions of years ago has been proven scientifically in this century. This drives us to the conclusion that Hindu scriptures are very scientific and to the point. Most of what we discover today can be traced back to Hindu Scriptures written by Great Hindu Sages millions of years ago. Importance of Annadanam from Swamiji's Padapooja book

Of all the Yajna Annadanam is considered one of the most important. Annad bhavanti bhutani (All living beings subsist on food grains). This sloka from Gita tells us how Annam is closely knit with all living beings. " ദദസ്വാന്നം ദദസ്വാന്നം  ദദസ്വാന്നം യുധിഷ്ഠിര:" The above  sloka from Bhavishya Purana tells  us to give annam as danam.Without Annam one cannot imagine the existence of nature itself. "അന്നമേവ മനുഷ്യാണാം പ്രാണാനാഹുര്‍ മനീഷിണ: " Annam is the life force(pranan) and life force is annam as told by great saints. Ramayanam also speaks about Annadanam done by King Dasaratha and Lord Sree Ram.Of all the Yajna conducted Annadanam is considered to be the most important one. "കാലെ വര്‍ഷതി പര്‍ജന്യ  സുഭിക്ഷം വിമലാ ദിശ:.." Annandanam should be conducted in abundance as told by Kula Guru Vashishta muni.Always maintain  equal respect for all the people who take part in Annadanam and do not differentiate people based on character, status etc.Annam shoul...

Things to follow while cooking and serving food from Swamiji's Padapooja Book.

Blog readers may find a bit surprising  to find a post on cooking and serving in a religious blog. However in reality without food there is no existence of nature itself.Annam or food is everybody's life force or if we put it in another way Life force is everybody's Annam or food. Annad bhavanti bhutani (All living bodies subsist on food grains) Annam bahu kurvita.(Ensure abundance of food all over) Annam na nindhyath (Do not abuse food) I have summarized a couple of points below from Swamiji's Padapooja book Kitchen should be considered equivalent to a Pooja Room. Cleanliness and purity should be maintained similar to a Pooja Room. While cooking make sure our mind is clean and not filled with unwanted thoughts.Any unwanted thought has a negative effect on the food. Avoid discussion on anybody/anything while cooking and serving the food. Prepare only the food required and concentrate on quality rather than increasing the number of dishes to show our financial status....

Relationship between Sound and Form(Roopam)

It may be a surprise to hear that sound and form are one and the same.Lets look at an example and understand the above statement.A child sitting inside the house hears his father’s voice outside the house. After hearing his father’s voice the child need not go outside to confirm in order to tell his Mother that father is coming. When father’s voice is heard a picture of his father is formed in his mind.On the other hand  if the child did not have the image of the father associated with the sound he would have told somebody else had come. The image formed in child’s mind after hearing his father’s voice is through thought waves. With thought waves sound is formed as well as the image associated. When the child calls father also the same thought waves are used. When sound (Nada) is heard the first motion is Bindu and the image formed is Kala. The theory of creation is explained from Nada Bindu Kala. This explains that an image is merged in sound. When a glass falls and breaks we say with...
