The Essence of Ramayana

Ramayana is the first and noblest of its kind as an epic.It uplifts a person from a lower  to the higher status of Life. The sublime principles of life are glorified in it.The viles and virtues are given importance in personal  life and in social order.Dharmic discipline is established in all walks of life.Strength and steadiness ,vigor and vitality, wit and wisdom are taken as the instruments  for the promotion of Dharma.Dharma is accepted as the nucleus of life. The morals and values  of human life are always protected .The indiscipline of negative forces of life is discouraged and defeated

The symbolism in Ramayana is very much attractive. Here the lower status of human mind is gradually lifted to the higher status of spiritual order for which the qualities of the human mind are transformed into the characters of Ramayana. The Heroes and heroines wear significance as symbols to suggest the qualities of the human mind .The viles  and virtues are discussed through this brilliant technique The viles are defeated and virtues are promoted The negative forces are discouraged and positive values are encouraged .

Animate and inanimate are included as tools and instruments for the success of this noble venture.Brahma, Vishnu,Maheswara, Rishis, Rakshas, Devas and Asuras, Men and Monkeys Emperors and Empires,Mountains and Seas, Birds and Animals, Jungles and Beaches are effective participants in this mystical and mundane operation for which avatar is taken as a medium through which the sublimity is explained.

The concept of Avatar or Incarnation.
The luminous of sublimity of the great epic is Rama  His superior personality leads us to higher status of impersonality. Impersonality means an ethic which is  visible an all pervading  power which is invisible.which is explained through a person. Rama is the nucleus and the central figure in the mystical science formed as a epic.In all mystical poems the great sage poets have adopted a beautiful method to explain  the invisible truth. By explaining the visible media they lead us to the unseen and unfelt truth. Incarnation is a function with a word meaning that comes down from a higher stage to the lower.

The higher truth has a no quality. It is beyond all qualities but the lower is with qualities. The higher is formless, the lower is in all forms. The higher is experience and the lower is experiment. The higher is purusha and the lower is prakrithi. The higher is Nirguna but the lower is saguna.Nirguna means having no quality which cannot be explained through qualities Which cannot be visible through the qualities but the lower is saguna Saguna means with qualities.Visibly having guna and by other programs of organs it can be explained so it is called the Saguna. The higher is Brahman the lower is Prakrithi The higher is knowledge and the lower nescience.Nescience means ignorance The higher is luminousness   and the lower luminous. Luminousness  is the status of being  illumined Lower is luminous means which is inspired or instigated  to shine or to glitter or to make anything active The higher hiranyagrabha the other virat cosmic The higher is impersonal and the lower personal .

Enlightened Gurus try to impart the knowledge of the impersonal through the personal but being personal, formed into personal ,the latter never looses the capacity to transform himself  into  luminousness. Here the meaning is, anything in the form with  a name has its own limitation. It will be never be all pervading. It will never be omniscient  or omnipresent which cannot do anything other than the law of form and name.So here, the avatar is not like that Though the avatar has a form and name it is not within the limitations of its form and name but it goes beyond it, breaks all the limitations and then merges with the impersonal. All the impersonal qualities are explained through the personality,so  Ram. the incarnation and Brahman are one and the same. That means personal is equal to impersonal So service to Ram is a service to ones own self. Why?  because Self is the Brahman,Self is the Soul and Self is the Ram.That is a sacred work to transform oneself into Atma Ram .Atma Ram means by ones own contemplation and meditation the upasaka is becoming with  the qualities of  the upasyam or if  somebody's is contemplating or meditating on Ram in the final end he himself is transformed into Ram or with Ram;s qualities .Thus serving Ram means lifting oneself to the status of Ram.

Reason behind choosing Malayalam month Karkidakam as Ramayana Masam

Ramayana Masam is observed to bring out the importance of Ramayana and not of the month.Karkidakam month is often called  "panja masam"  (lean season).New ventures and auspicious functions(Wedding,House Warming,Vidhyarambham etc ) are not held during this month.Karkidakam marks the begining of Dakshinayanam(southern movement of the sun). Inclement weather, poverty and diseases are the highlights of this month. The effect of which is reflected in mankind and in all living  beings. As per Ayurveda shastra this time is good for all health treatments such as Pizhichil ,Uzhichil etc..The change in the sun's path has significant impact on human beings also.

Human body and nature are closely associated. Both bodies are made up of Panchabootham(Earth,Water,Fire,Air and Sky). Any change in Prapancha Sareeram(Nature) has a direct effect on Human body and the society. This is based on the Prana (Life Force) and the body.Phenomenon of Uttarayana and Dakshinayana based on the celestial equator  path is also present in the  Human body.As per  "Jabala Darsanopanishad"  Sushumna Nadi is the celestial equator path,Ida Nadi is Dakshinayana path,Pingala Nadi being Uttarayana path.Sun's position in the equator  corresponds to Prana(Life force) in Sushumna Nadi.Ida Nadi is called Chandra(Moon)  Nadi and Pingala Nadi as Soorya(Sun) Nadi. This is how the human body and the Prapancha Sareeram(Nature) are related.

Following sloka describes the Uttarayana and Dakshinayana in human body.

Pingalayam Iddayam tu
Vayoch Samkramanom tu Yat
Taduththarayanam Proektham
Munae Vedandhavedibhih
Iddayam Pingalayam tu
Pranasamkramanom Munae
Dakshinayanamithyuktham
Pingalaya Mithi Srutih

Movement of Prana Sooryan from Pingala to Ida is called Uttarayanam. Movement of Prana Sooryan from Ida to Pingala is called Dakshinayanam. The movement of Prana Sooryan is similar to that which occurs in the Prapancha Sareeram(Nature). When Prana Sooryan traverses through Ida its called Apanan(Dakshinayana Sooryan) and through Pingala it's called Pranan(Uttarayana Sooryan).Apanan starts at the same time when Karkidakam month starts and is responsible for material or negative thought waves.Pranan is pure and is responsible for spiritual or positive thought waves.

During Dakshinayanam period human body is more prone to material or negative thought waves. To overcome the bad effect of Apanan, Ramayan is recited so that spiritual or positive thought waves overide  material or negative thought waves. For a person who does daily recital of Ramayan Karkidakam month has no significance since all round the year spiritual or positive thought waves are created.

The Symbolism of Lotus in Hinduism

Saraswathi Devi and Lakshmi Devi are shown sitting on a Lotus flower. The color of Lotus is white for Saraswathi Devi and red for Lakshmi Devi.

There is a science behind depiction of  Saraswathi  Devi and Lakshmi Devi sitting on a Lotus. This is because the first movement involved in creation is in the shape of a lotus. Even our  thought waves travel in the shape of a Lotus. This is similar to putting a stone in a pond. The waves traverses in all directions then come back to the  point the stone was dropped and if we draw lines connecting the waves to the point the stone was dropped, it develops into a beautiful Lotus.

The white colored Lotus symbolizes purity and knowledge as Saraswathi  devi  is the embodiment of pure knowledge. The red colored Lotus symbolizes wealth and prosperity. This is the reason behind Saraswathi Devi and Lakshmi devi being portrayed as sitting on White and Red Lotus flower respectively.

Scientific Analysis of Sree Chakra

Modern science has come up with a deeper meaning in Sree Chakra which is considered symbolic in Tantra Sasthra. Experiments show that when the Mula Mantram of Sree Lalithambika Devi is recited correctly ,Sree Durga Devi's form with four hands, is formed in the atmosphere.
ഓം ഹ്രീം ലളിതാംബികായൈ നമ:
ക എ ഇ ല ഹ്രീം
ഹ സ ക ഹ ല ഹ്രീം
സ ക ല ഹ്രീം
The above Sloka is the Mula Mantram of Sree Lalithambika Devi .The effect of this mantram can be analyzed using the Tonoscope .Tonoscope is an instrument which measures the frequency and tone of sound and gives a pictorial representation of the wave form. When we connect the tonoscope to a computer and recite the mula mantram of Sree Lalithambika Devi the output is the Sree Chakra. Sree Chakra is a mathematical scientific wonder and so far it has not been fully analyzed. The second part of the analysis is to pass a Laser beam through the centre of Sree Chakra and develop a Hologram which results in the image of Sree Lalithambika Devi with four hands. This explains the existence of Sree Lalithambika Devi in the Sree Chakra.

Bharathiya Rishis were so advanced and they were able to arrange syllables in an order which when repeated in that order in proper frequency and tone brings out the proper form (roopam) in the atmosphere. This shows how sound and form are closely related and the excellence of Bharathiya Rishi parampara in formulating this. Bharathiya Rishis had extensive knowledge of the science, relationship between Vigraham, Yantram ,Mula Mantram and the impact of these on the Universe.

Below images shows Sree Chakra image from Tonoscope and principle of Hologram.

Significance and Meaning of Rama Mantram

‘Sri Rama Rama Rameti Rame Raame Manorame;
Sahasra nama tattulyam Rama nama varanane!’

The above Sloka is Lord Shiva's reply to Goddess Parvathi's question as to which mantra  can be easily  recited and its effect equivalent to Sahasranama. Lord Shiva's reply was Rama Mantram.

Rama sound is formed from 2 Beejaksharas (the seed syllables) Ra and Ma. "Beejakshara" means the seed syllable which stores that, which is indestructible. Akshara means that which is indestructible. The Beejaksharam "Ra" is from the Ashtakshari Mantra: "Om Namo Narayanaya" and Beejaksharam "Ma" from Panchakshari mantra "Om Namah Shivaya"

Beejaksharam is the jeevan or life force of a mantra and if we remove that then that mantra becomes useless. From Narayanaya mantra if we remove Beejaksharam "Ra" sound then it will become Na ayanaya which means not good for chanting ,moksha etc.Same applies while removing Beejaksharam "Ma" from Namah. Namah Shivaya mantra becomes Na Shivaya which means not good for  Prosperity(Mangalam)The word Shiva means  prosperity which however is achieved only when liberation is attained from all bondage. When Ra is removed Knowledge (Jñānam) is lost and when Ma is removed Prosperity is lost. The Beejaksharams Ra and Ma together form RAMA and Rama sound represents Knowledge and  Prosperity.

By continuous chanting of the mantra, the mantra shareeram purifies the life force to the extent that it can easily merge in the universal being. This is the science behind the daily Japam. This shows the truth embedded in Beejaksharam and it's impact on chanting the mantras. The end result will be the confluence of Life force (Jeeva Shakti) and favorite deity (Ishta Devatha ) based on the mantra chanted.Rama Mantra when chanted together at home with family brings prosperity and harmony.

Time Concept in Hinduism

Bharatheeya Saints had visualised the orgin and time span of universe crores of years back.Result of which is the four Yugas(Krita Yuga,Treta Yuga,Dwapara yuga,Kali Yuga) and the time extending upto age of Brahma ,Vishnu and Shiva.Currently we are in the Kali Yuga ,year 5113 and Kali Divas 1867503 as of Sat Feb 11 2012

The division of time was extremely advanced and went beyond the current smallest unit of time which is seconds. 1 second when divided by 40000 parts is called Dwanukom.two of which is called Trenukom. Time concept was so scientific that on one hand it divided the seconds into smaller parts to the instance where the human mind starts to think and  on the other hand it calculated time extending upto Yugas ,Brahmas age and so on.

Chatur Yugas are as follows:

Krita Yuga =  1728,000  Years
Treta Yuga = 1296,000 Years (Lord Sree Ram's Period)
Dwapara yuga = 864,000 Years (Lord Krishna's Period)
Kali Yuga = 432,000 Years(Current Period)
Total of four Yugas= 4320,000 Years

1000 Chatur Yugas(1000 * 4320,000) = 1 day of Brahman (Vrudhi Kalpam)
1000 Chatur Yugas(1000 * 4320,000) = 1 night of Brahma (Kshyah Kalpam)
2000 Chatur Yugas (2000 * 4320,000)= 1 Day & night of Brahma
360 days of Brahma (2000 x4320,000 x360 human days)  = 1 year of Brahma(Kalpam)
100 Years of Brahma = Brahma's full age (Maha Kalpam) =1 day of Vishnu

It is  not to be misunderstood that Brahma is somebody sitting at one place and living upto to 1000 Chatur Yugas.1000 Chatur Yugas which is 1 day of Brahma signifies the end of the srishti (creation).Brahma is called the creator because Brahma is mapped  to the time period which we cannot comprehend for scientific  calibrations and this does not mean Brahma is not present. We have 7 Brahmas who represent 7 lower  worlds which are Atala, Vitala, Sutala, Rasaataala, Mahaatala,Talatala, Paatala and  7 higher worlds Bhu lokam , Bhuvar lokam, Svar lokam, Mahar lokam, Jana lokam, Tapo lokam and Satya lokam.

An evidence to the Yuga period is the Rama Setu ( Adams Bridge) imaged by NASA.Space images taken by NASA reveal an ancient man made bridge in the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka dating back to 1,750,000 years which is during Treta Yuga (Lord Sree Rama's Period) Period. We know from Ramayana that Lord Sree Ram built a bridge from Rameswaram to Lanka and now we have proof of what is said in the Ramayana.
